1983 | 14-2 | NFC Champions

The 1983 team was one of the most dominant in NFL history during the regular season and the playoffs, but unfortunately those memories will always be tarnished by a crushing loss to the Raiders in Super Bowl 18.

Although the season opened with a stunning one-point loss to Dallas, the team would only lose one other game by one point. The offense set a new single season scoring record, averaging almost 34 points per game, and Riggins set a new record with 24 rushing TD's. Art Monk emerged as a star, and Joe Theismann had his most productive season. The defense was the top in the league against the rush, and proved amazingly opportunistic by netting a +41 turnover ratio.

The team opened the playoffs with a crushing win over the L.A. Rams, and won the NFC Championship game against San Francisco despite struggling in the second half. Unfortunately, all of the season's dominance seemed far away by halftime of the Super Bowl, as the Raiders dismantled the Redskins in a record-setting rout.
