Troubles continued for the Redskins in this Monday Night rematch of the NFC Championship game. Montana and the 49ers picked Washington apart in the first half, building a 27-3 lead. At halftime, Gibbs reportedly came out of his stoic shell and legend has it he was throwing chairs.
Whatever happened at halftime, the Redskins came out in the third quarter looking like a different team. Two crisp drives for TDs closed the score to 27-17. But Montana and company were able to respond, and the teams traded scores in the fourth quarter leaving the Skins six points short at 37-31.
