1986 Week 15 | Washington Redskins 30 : Denver Broncos 31

Looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to the Giants, Washington again found themselves in a back and forth contest, and again were hampered by kicking problems.

The Redskins managed to open up a 13-7 halftime lead behind a Schroeder-Sanders TD pass and another Rogers run, with Zendejas missing one extra point. But the Elway-led Broncos came to life in the third quarter and pulled out to a 21-13 lead of their own.

The teams traded scores in a back-and-forth fourth quarter. Denver widened their lead by answering a Washington FG with another TD, making the score 28-16. The Skins responded, with Monk catching a long TD from Schroeder to close to 28-23. Denver could only answer with a FG, making it 31-23. Washington's offense did their job, driving the field and scoring a TD. But the earlier missed extra point left the Skins one point short at 31-30, and they could not manage another scoring drive to come away with a win.
