Doug Williams again replaced Jay Schroeder in a matchup with the playoff-bound Vikings.
The game started slowly, with Washington holding a 14-7 lead at the end of the third quarter. Barry Wilburn had returned an interception the length of the field and Williams added a TD pass to Ricky Sanders.
Nobody expected a wild fourth quarter. Minnesota scored 17 straight points to open the fourth, erasing the Redskins lead and building a 10 point cushion of their own. Washington responded, first with a FG and then a long Sanders TD catch to tie the game at the end of regulation. Williams continued to connect with Sanders in OT, putting Washington in position for the winning FG.
