1988 Week 12 | Washington Redskins 21 : San Francisco 49ers 37

Washington needed to start a new roll to have any hope at the playoffs, but travelling to play the 49ers on Monday night would offer no help.

Montana and Williams both led TD drives in the first quarter, but things began to come apart in the second. San Francisco's John Taylor returned a punt 95 yards for a TD and the 49ers offense added 9 more points to pull out to a 23-7 halftime lead.

Washington started a rally attempt in the third quarter with a Ricky Sanders TD, but the 49ers responded with two fourth quarter TDs, including a long Jerry Rice catch. Monk added a TD catch of his own, but the game was already out of reach.
