The Cowboys held a 10-3 lead after a first half played conservatively by both teams. But the offenses exploded in the third quarter, with Dallas scoring on one long TD pass and Washington on two. The score was tied at 17 going into the fourth quarter.
Dallas broke the tie with Michael Irvin's second TD of the game in the fourth quarter. The Skins mounted a drive deep into Dallas territory, but could get the ball in the end zone to send the game into overtime.
