Washington built on its winning streak, edging the Chargers in a back-and-forth game.

San Diego scored two first quarter TDs, and Washington answered with a Ricky Sanders scoring catch to trail 14-7 at halftime.

The Redskins chipped away at San Diego's lead, and finally took a lead of their own after a three third quarter FGs made it 16-14. The Chargers responded with a TD drive to open the fourth quarter and re-take the lead. But Rypien led two fourth quarter drives that netted 10 points, pulling Washington ahead for the victory.
