1990 NFC Divisional Playoff | Washington Redskins 10 : San Francisco 49ers 28

Washington hung with San Francisco early in this playoff game, but the 49ers ultimately proved to be too much for the Redskins.

The Skins held a 10-7 lead in the first quarter after a Rypien-to-Monk TD pass. But Joe Montana threw two TD passes before halftime, and the Skins now trailed 21-10.

Washington threatened several times in the third quarter, but could not come up with scores. A long interception return off of a tipped pass in the fourth quarter finally iced the game for San Francisco and set the Redskins home for the remainder of the playoffs.

The Redskins lost this game despite a brilliant performance from Monk, who caught passes for 163 yards, rushed for 9, and performed at least one embarrassing pancake block on a 49er defensive back. Monk's catches included a 31 yard TD and another of 40 yards to get the 'Skins out of the shadow of their own goal line.
