1991 Super Bowl XXVI | Washington Redskins 37 : Buffalo Bills 24

All the components that had made the Redskins a dominant team in 1991 performed to perfection in Super Bowl XXVI.

The game got off to a slow start, with neither team scoring in the first quarter. Buffalo dodged an early bullet when an apparent Monk TD was called back after a replay review and Washington missed the ensuing FG attempt.

In the second quarter, the Skins blew the game open. A Lohmiller FG started the scoring. Washington again drove the field and scored on a pass and run by Earnest Byner. After a Jim Kelly interception, the Redskins again drove crisply into scoring position and capped it off with a short Riggs run. Washington led 17-0 at halftime.

Buffalo got the ball first in the second half, but their comeback hopes were dashed on the first play as Kelly forced a pass into coverage and it was intercepted by LB Kurt Gouveia. He returned it deep into Bills' territory and Riggs scored a TD on the next play to make it 24-0.

The Bills staged a rally, scoring the next 10 points to bring it to 24-10. But Washington responded with another drive before the third quarter ended, scoring on a long Rypien-to-Clark pass. Rypien ran down the sidelines pumping his fist as the Skins now led 31-10 going into the fourth quarter.

The Redskins added two more FGs early in the fourth to bring to score to 37-10. Buffalo did not stop playing, and two Jim Kelly TD passes prevented the score from looking like a total blowout. Still, the Redskins' sideline spent much of the fourth quarter celebrating, and the team basked in the glow of fulfilled promise and another championship.
