1991 Week 9 | Washington Redskins 17 : New York Giants 13
The Redskins had rolled through the first half of 1991, but if they were to prove that they were now the team to beat, they'd need to get past the Giants, who had owned them in previous season.
Early in the game, it looked like nothing had changed. New York opened up a 13-0 halftime lead and had shut down the Washington offense. But Washington kept trying what had worked all season, and in the third quarter Rypien and Gary Clark began to get in synch. The two connected for a TD in the third to bring the Skins within 6 at 13-7.
In the fourth quarter, Rypien again found Clark, this time for a long catch and run for a TD, and Washington pulled to its first lead. Lohmiller hit a FG late in the final period to make it 17-13, and the Giants could not answer with the TD they would need to pull out the win.
