The Offseason is Now!Well, our little poll on the homepage apparently left one category out - new assistant coaches. Just when we thought all coaching issues had been resolved with Williams' extended contract, we get a surprise in the news this week with the addition of KC Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders. Despite some flashes of strength, our offense was still our weak spot in 2005, and that was exposed by our playoff opponents. Saunders certainly brings a track record of success - he was part of the late 90s Rams crew and the Chiefs have led the league in several offensive categories for the past five years. He comes from the same Coryell pedigree that Joe Gibbs shares, loving schemes full of motion and misdirection. Musgrave helped solidify the QB play this season, and hopefully Saunders can apply some patches to other aspects of the offense. Gibbs' play calling still came under fire at times this year, with conservatism and predictability becoming common complaints. Obviously, the wrinkles Saunders can bring will be in large part dependent on what other toys he's given in the offseason, espeically at wide receiver. One thing's for sure - he's never played opposite a defense like ours. It's great to kick off the offseason with another surprise addition that appears to only hope the Skins.
