Trent Green had come on the scene as an exciting young QB and veteran defensive lineman Dana Stubblefield had been signed. All shreds of hopes were shattered early as Washington slumped out of the gate to an 0-7 start. The team was barely competitive in some of the games, and swirling questions about Turner's future became a tornado. Once again, a late season surge left room for some cautious hope, as the Redskins finished 6-3. Trent Green showed promise under center, throwing for over 3400 yards. Also significant for the franchise in 1998 was the inability of John Kent Cook to raise the necessary funds to maintain ownership of the team and stadium.
